カブリダニの発育ステージ

Five developmental stages (egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph, adult). Larva has 6 legs, other movable stages have 8 legs. It is difficult to discriminate protonymph and deutonymph stages by low-power binocular microscope. For precise discrimination, slide specimens are prepared, and the tip of peritreme and the setal position on ventral surface are compared between protonymph and deutonymph by phase contrast (differential-interference) microscope.

周気管による識別

In larva, peritreme is not visible. In protonymph stage, peritreme is short and tip of peritreme is located at coxa of 3rd leg. In deutonymph stage, peritreme elongate and tip of peritreme is located at coxa of 2nd leg. In adult female, peritreme elongate more forward and tip of peritreme is located at the gnathosoma. The location of peritreme-tip is variable by species.

腹面の毛の配列による識別

Six pairs of ventral setae (ST1, ST2, ST3, JV1, JV2, ZV2) are visible at 1st stage of nymph (both sexes). At 2nd stage of nymph, 2 pairs of setae (ST4, ST5) are added in male, and 5 pairs of setae (ST4, ST5, ZV1, ZV3, JV4) are added in female.
