Body of phytoseiid mites is divided into 4 segments; gnathosoma (顎体部), propodosoma (前胴体部), metapodosoma (中胴体部) and opisthosoma (後胴体部). As an easy explanation for species identification, the body parts are sometimes described as proterosoma (gna + pro)(前体部), hysterosoma (met + opi)(後体部), idiosoma (pro + met + opt)(胴体部), podosoma (pro + met), and prosoma (gna + pro + met)(肢体部).

Body of phytoseiid mites is wrapped by shields (plates)(肥厚板) and soft skin (板間膜). Dorsal shield covers upper surface of body, having a number of dorsal setae (背毛). Ventral shield (female: sternal shield (胸板), genital shield (生殖板), ventri-anal shield (腹肛板). male: sterno-genital shield (胸生殖板), ventri-anal shield (腹肛板)) covers under the body, having ventral setae (腹毛). Peritremal shield (周気管板) covers both sides of the body, having a pair of peritremes (周気管) from both stigmata (気門).
